Program Overview & Goals
The goal of the Woman at the Well program is to support educational opportunities and experiences that will help the women we serve transform their lives. The program is women-centered, spiritually-based and recovery oriented. The program is divided into several major components:
1) Recovery
The first component is spiritually-based Recovery Programming based on the 12 Step model. The goal of recovery programming is the understanding and adoption of a new way of living we call the recovery lifestyle. Specific sessions include:
- Recovery Lifestyles, a facilitated group discussion covering all aspects of recovery (weekly)
- Living in Recovery, successful women in recovery share their experiences (weekly)
- Women and Spirituality, a women-centered curriculum on recovery and spirituality
- AA Step Study, a study and 12 Step discussion (weekly)
- 12 Step meetings in the community (twice weekly)
2) Relationships
The second component covers the broad area of Relationships. With the understanding that relationships and connectedness are integral to programming for women, the goal of this aspect of programming is learning a new way of relating to others.
- Bridging the Gap: a Guide to Relationship Recovery, a six week session covering self, God, children, friends and family and life partners (weekly)
- Becoming a Love and Logic Parent, seven modules covering key parenting issues (weekly)
3) Life Skills
The third major area of focus is Life and Coping skills with the goal of learning new skills that will enable women to better cope with their lives.
- Life Skills, class covering topics from anger management to decision-making skills (weekly)
- Financial management – basic budgeting (weekly)
- Job Readiness, secrets to job success beyond the resume (quarterly)
- Keeping a Journal, writing and self reflection as critical life skills (weekly)
4) Connections
This aspect of the program links women to community groups and organizations, with the goal of connecting women to the support systems and networks they need to sustain themselves in the community.
- Church Attendance at church of choice (weekly)
- CentroMed, Dixon Clinic or CareLink, primary medical care (as needed)
- Christian Dental Clinic, dental care (as needed)
- Center for Health Care Services Genesis program, mental health care (as needed)
- San Antonio College and SAC Women’s Center, for continuing or higher education (as needed)
- Alamo Area Workforce Center, Project Rio, for job opportunities (as needed)
